Skutviken
Shipyard hall and conversion of existing building to exhibition halls etc
A boat builder had been offered the opportunity to develop Skutviken, outside Stockholm, to build and repair wooden boats. Skutviken was currently used to store boats offseason in three barns, one large and wide, two smaller and narrow stepping up a steep slope from a slipway.
We were asked to prepare an initial design, which at quay level included a repair facility for boats up to 25 meters long, the shipyard hall and additional covered storage space. The conversion of the existing buildings to exhibition halls was extended to include a café plus student overnight accommodation and a design studio.
Road access is down a steep track from a car park and a visitor´s centre at the entrance to the development. A direct pedestrian and cycle link west to Fisksätra harbour, from the landing stage for tour boats, is proposed along the southern shore.
